Samsung LN46A550 46-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV
This is my 4th Samsung LCD set. My previous LCD HDTV was the LNR268W. It was a 26 inch 1080i LCD, which I happily owned for two years. Picture quality was great with surprisingly good sound. However due to the smaller size, higher resolutions were a bit of a moot point. After looking around, I decided on the LN46A550.
What I Liked.
I looked around the web and found instructions on tuning the TV’s settings using professionally calibrated picture quality settings. After the changes, the LN46A550 displayed a great range of natural colors, contrast, and blacks and whites. The picture quality was really noticeable with my Blu-Ray discs, standard definition TV, PS3 games, and regular DVDs.
With a 5ms response time, I do not see the same ghosting as with my older 8ms response time set.
Many of the preset color and picture quality settings on the set are already very good, compared to other LCD manufacturers.
There are an awesome number of video inputs.
What I Didn’t Like.
The internal speakers are awful. With tuning, I got passable sound. But, it still lacked clarity as the volume increased. The sound was either all highs, all lows, or drowned out in the middle. You need to get a separate audio receiver and speaker set.
My General Impression.
This is a great set and I am very pleased with it. Despite the poor sound quality of the internal speakers, the quality of the rest of the features is overwhelming!
If you’re not sure about which TV to get, consider this Samsung LN46A550.
